Lifeboat 23,5 meter class, Scale 1/1250, 1,88 cm length
The lifeboats of the 23.5 meter class are definitely an icon in German lifeboat history. A Seenotkreuzer of this class has been included in the collection of the Deutschen Museum in Munich. The Theodor Heuss type in 1/1250 scale measures 1.88 cm x 0.42 cm!
History DGzRS 23,5 meter class
A total of five ships of the so-called 23.5 meter class have been built for the DGzRS (Deutsche Gesellschaft zur Rettung Schiffbrüchiger). However, one of the five was built by the Italian Guardia Costiera. Theodor Heuss was named after the first president of the Federal Republic of Germany. All these lifeboats had a ‘daughter boat’, a small lifeboat on the aft deck for precise operations or use in shallow waters.
The German lifeboats of the 23.5 meter class were withdrawn from service in 1985. The Theodor Heuss was sold to a private person who converted the ship into a yacht. The lifeboat H.H.Meier left for the Munich Traffic Museum in 1985 and was named Theodor Heuss.
The 23.5 meter class in scale 1/1250 is 1.88 cm long and 0.42 cm wide. Like all ships from BFT1250.nl, the ship model has been made by using the original building plans. Despite the small scale, the ship model has beautiful details.
