Ferry Texelstroom, Scale 1/1250, 5,40 cm length
One of TESO’s (Texel’s Eigen Stoomboot Onderneming) most popular ships is the single-deck ferry Texelstroom (1966). Our model in scale 1:1250 (5.4 cm x 1.3 cm) has the latest TESO color scheme and fits perfectly with the model of the double-deck ferry Molengat!
History TESO ferry Texelstroom (1966)
In 1964, TESO launched its first new double-ended ferry Marsdiep. Sister ship Texelstroom followed in 1966. The ships had the same designer as the PSD (Provinciale Stoomboot Diensten in Zeeland) single-deck ferries such as the Prinses Margriet and are also loosely based on this design. The Texel-Den Helder ferry service was from 1964 onwards a modern ferry service with two ships suitable for the transport of 70 cars. Until then, side loading ferries were employed for the transportation of cars, which was a time consuming method.
By the end of the 1970s, the Texelstroom was given the distinctive yellow TESO house style, following the example of the double-deck ferry Molengat that soon would enter service. When in 1990 the second TESO double-decker (Schulpengat) came into service, the single-deckers Marsdiep and Texelstroom were no longer needed. In 1992 the ships left for Malta, where they sailed for another ten years to the island of Gozo.
The Texelstroom in 1:1250 scale measures 5.4 cm x 1.3 cm. Just like all other BFT1250.nl ships, the ferry is designed on the basis of the original building plans. The ship was painted in the TESO colors from the mid-80s to 1992. The scale model of the Texelstroom is perfect to place alongside our scale model of the TESO double-decker Molengat since they were fleetmates for many years.
