The General Purpose Leander Class frigates started entering service in the Royal Navy in the early 1960's. They were designed to perform a wide variety of roles from Anti-Submarine, Anti-Aircraft, Aircraft Direction to a general Utility role.
They were four versions of the Leander. The major difference being the weapon systems used. The first was the Gun Leander, the second the Ikara version. The third version was armed with the Exocet missile system whilst the fourth version also had the Seawolf system fitted.

HMS Cleopatra; Exocet Conversion
HMS Ajax; Ikara Conversion
